Dissolved Ammonia
(6) is produced when the
Lithium Nitrate
inhibitor scavenges free Hydrogen inside the chiller. The
free Hydrogen is the direct
by-product of the corrosive attack
of the Lithium Bromide charge on the iron or steel shell of the
chiller.
Further, the presence of Ammonia can cause specialized
stress corrosion cracking of the copper
based tubing.
In the example, the amount of Ammonia present is minimal,
but still the
possibility for stress cracking is indicated.
